The Cochise College soccer team took their annual pre-season trip to California last week. The Apaches competed against MiraCosta College and Palomar College. The team was able to test their formation and positions in the MiraCosta scrimmage, allowing the team to get ready for the aggressive Palomar Comets. After 42 minutes of play, Yadi Garcia placed a free kick in the back of the net, giving the Apaches a 1-0 lead at the half. The Comets came out strong, making the score 1-1 early in the second half. Cochise was relentless and was able to make a three-man combination play starting with a drop ball from Megan Gonzalez to center mid-fielder Silvia Dominguez. Silvia found outside forward Kayla Davis, making a run down the line. Kayla took a touch to place the ball on her left foot and hammered a goal away in the upper V. The match ended in a 2-1 victory for the Apaches. The soccer team also made a trip to University of California-San Diego’s match to see what it takes to play at the next level, as well as a trip to an L.A. Galaxy game to learn from the professionals.
