Wednesday proved to be difficult offensively as there were only three hits produced by the black squad and only four hits by the red squad. In the end, it came down to the performance of Tyler Fallwell (Arizona) and Jackson Overlund’s big hit in the top of the 6th to give the red squad a 6–0 win.
Logan Bottrell (Nevada), Jorge Duarte (Arizona), and Yodai Nakamura (Nevada) were the only three who got hits during game two. The key play believed to have destroyed the black squad was Nakamura’s leadoff with a line drive over the first baseman that traveled all the way to the wall and just ran out of gas going to third and was thrown out. This would have led to a few runs because of the knocks after that play. However, it still was not enough as the red squad produced quality at-bats to score more runs.
Jackson Overlund (Arizona) and Luis Hidalgo (New York) had key at-bats for the Red Squad. Luis added to the score in the 7th by getting his lone hit, which produced two RBIs, but the talk was Jackson Overlund coming from a slow start in game 1, going 2 for 4 with the winning triple and RBI in the top of the 6th to give the red squad the lead. On the pitching side, Tyler Fallwell and Tommy Martinez (Arizona) cruised to a shutout. Fallwell went 6 innings, 0 walks, 6 strikeouts, and 0 runs on only 3 hits. Martinez closed it out walking 1 and striking out 2 to get the “W.” We are even as we go to game 3 of the series with sophomore Brad Danzeisen (Nevada) going against freshman Jerry Ochoa (Arizona) to get a lead in the series. Come join the Apache Baseball team @ Apache Field @ 2:20 pm for game 3.
