This isn’t just any birthday. Anyone who’s turned 50 knows what we mean. Cochise College opened in 1964 and in 2014-2015 celebrates five decades of providing golden opportunities to citizens and students. It will commemorate the occasion with a year of celebratory events small and large.
In September, we invite you to “Come Together” to celebrate “Yesterday.” The Beatles took the world by storm when they played on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964, and we’re proud to present two free concerts by “Twist & Shout: The Definitive Beatles Experience.” In addition, if you were a student in the 1960s, we’d like to see you at the Founder’s Dinner on Sept. 21. But first we need “Help!”
- We’re seeking Cochise College memorabilia to include in a historical exhibit that will rotate to locations around Cochise County. So far, we’ve collected baseball attire from Dr. Richard “Bubba” Hall (‘89), Student Government pins from 1960s student Bruce Wertz, and the first edition of the “Heliograph” newspaper from John Sauer (’66). - Cochise’s first Hall of Fame induction ceremony is set for April 2015. Nomination criteria are somewhat broad. Start thinking about former students (individuals, teams or groups), faculty/staff and community leaders who have made a major contribution to the mission and goals of Cochise College, or who have contributed in a significant way to the lives of others after being a part of the Cochise College community. The nomination deadline is Dec. 17, 2014, and nominations can be submitted online.

If we could, we’d celebrate “Eight Days a Week,” but since that’s not in the cards, we’re planning memorable events we hope will both make history and illuminate all that’s good here at Cochise College. Now, we better get a bigger spotlight.
