The Cochise College women’s soccer team had a productive week with a win against Gateway, 2-1, on Tuesday and a tie against Paradise Valley, 0-0, on Thursday.
Thursday’s tie against Paradise Valley, ranked third in the NJCAA, was a vast improvement from the 4-0 shutout loss the Apaches suffered against the Pumas early this season.
“We battled hard and played with heart,” Daniels said. “I couldn’t be more happy with their effort and their teamwork. They played with passion.”
Against Gateway, Angela Piccard launched the ball from 40 yards out, right over the goalie, to score first. In the second half, Itzel Ramos scored an insurance goal after London Brewster kicked the ball over the heads of Gateway’s back line, and Ramos took a one-touch to the back of the net.
The Apaches controlled the game the whole way, pressuring the goal at every opportunity and only allowing four Gateway shots. One went in just before time expired.
“It was a great game,” Cochise head coach Andrea Daniels said. “The girls came out strong and finished strong.”
Cochise (6-7-3) is at home on the Douglas Campus this Tuesday at 3 p.m. against Phoenix College. Admission to the game is free.
