DOUGLAS — The Cochise College women’s soccer team evened its overall record Tuesday with a 1-0 win against Phoenix College.
The victory puts the Apaches’ conference record at 7-6-2, good for fifth place in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference standings as of Wednesday. The top six teams make the playoffs.
In the 12th minute of Tuesday’s game, Phoenix defenders blocked a ball that came right to Cochise’s Lisa Christensen, who knocked it just above the Bears’ goalie and just below the crossbar to score.
“We were able to capitalize early in the first half,” said Cochise head coach Andrea Daniels. “We play at Scottsdale this Thursday, and we’re looking forward to battling and finishing strong.”
This Saturday against Mesa is sophomore day for Cochise College, as the team honors its three sophomores in their final regular-season home game. The game begins at 11 a.m. on the Douglas Campus. Admission is free.
