The Cochise women’s basketball team held its first official practices this week in preparation for the ACCAC Jamboree to be held at Mesa Community College on Saturday.
The Apaches will play four games with a 25-minute running clock at noon, 2:30, 3 and 4:30 p.m.
Last weekend, the Cochise men’s basketball team completed its first scrimmage of the year at the annual conference jamboree held at Phoenix College. The Apaches faced Central Arizona and South Mountain during the day.
“It was a very good event for our guys and our league,” said Cochise men’s basketball coach Jerry Carrillo of the jamboree, which also showcases players for university coaches.
This year’s men’s squad is following last season’s NJCAA Region I championship title and is looking for a repeat performance. The Arizona Community College Athletic Conference has the Apaches ranked first in its preseason coaches’ poll.
The Cochise women’s team scrimmages once more on Thursday, Oct. 20 at Eastern Arizona College, while the men host EAC on Oct. 15 then head to the Pima Community College Jamboree on Oct. 22 before both Apache teams’ season openers Nov. 1 at New Mexico.
