DOUGLAS — The Cochise College baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader against Yavapai College on Saturday, falling 6-1 in game one and 7-6 in 10 innings in game two.
In the late game, Cochise scored first on a two-run double by Nick Borowski in the third inning, but Yavapai took the lead with a run in the fourth and three in the fifth. The Apaches scored a run in the fifth on an RBI single by
The Roughriders put up two in the eighth, but Cochise answered with a run of its own in the eighth and another in the ninth to send it to extras. A solo home run by Austin Orth in the top of the 10th sealed it for Yavapai.
Josh Advocate went the first five innings for Cochise, allowing four runs on six hits while striking out four. David Estrada and Xavier Altamirano came on in relief, and Altamirano took the loss
In the early game, freshman Louis Boyd went a perfect 3 for 3 for Cochise. He singled in the first, third and sixth innings, and he also scored the Apaches’ lone run in the both of the sixth after reaching first on a ground ball through the shortstop, taking second on a fielder’s choice and scoring on a line drive to right field by Sean DeSoto.
Steve Naemark took the loss for Cochise, giving up six runs on 10 hits and no walks while striking out four in the complete seven innings.
Chance Adams recorded the win for Yavapai, allowing just four hits, walking two and striking out 11 in seven innings. Yavapai scored a run in the third, then exploded for five runs in the fourth.
The losses drop the Apaches’ record to 9-8 overall and 5-5 in Arizona Community College Athletic Conference play.
Cochise looks to bounce back on Tuesday against Phoenix College. Admission is free to the doubleheader, which begins at noon on the Douglas Campus.
