IMG_0461DOUGLAS — The Cochise College baseball team dropped the last two games of its three-game series against Western Nevada College over the weekend, falling Friday 9-2 and Saturday 6-2.

In Friday’s game, Western Nevada was on the board with three runs in the first, but the Apaches scraped across runs to keep it close. Nick Borowski’s RBI single scored one in the third and his sacrifice fly scored another in the fifth to make it 3-2.

Western Nevada scored two in the seventh, two more in the eighth and two in the ninth to pull away. Xavier Altamirano took the loss for Cochise. He went seven innings, walked three, struck out eight and allowed five runs.

On Saturday, Darick Hall went seven innings for Cochise and allowed one run in the fourth inning on five hits and two walks. Western Nevada scored another in the eighth and four in the ninth before the Apaches brought in two in the bottom of the ninth on a two-run single by Jake Luna.

The Apaches are 4-3 heading into conference play, which opens this Saturday against Eastern Arizona. The doubleheader against the Gila Monsters starts at noon on the Douglas Campus.
