baseball vs w nevadaDOUGLAS — The Cochise College baseball team defeated Western Nevada on Thursday 6-5 on a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth by Jake Luna.

Josh Advocate got the win for Cochise, allowing one run over 2 1/3 innings while striking out one and giving up one hit.

Steve Naemark started on the mound for the Apaches and finished with seven strikeouts while allowing one earned run on five hits and one walk over 6 2/3 innings.

Luna reached base three times for Cochise with two singles and a walk. He scored a run and had one RBI. Francisco Silva had two RBIs on a double and a single.

Cochise took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI double by Darick Hall, scoring Nick Borowski.

Western Nevada scored two runs in the third inning, then two more in the seventh.

Cochise survived Western Nevada’s surge and put up one run of its own in the eighth to tie the game on an RBI single by Louis Boyd. In the bottom of the ninth, Sean DeSoto doubled to center field, Douglas Campus against Western Nevada this week, with games at 2 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday.

Admission is free to all regular-season home games.
