IMG_9922YUMA — The Cochise College men’s basketball came up short against rival Arizona Western on Wednesday night, falling 70-67.

Jordan Martin scored a game-high 28 points off the bench for Cochise. He was the only Apache in double figures.

Cochise was down by 10 midway through the second half but came back to tie it on a layup by Antonio Penny with 30 seconds to go. A 3-pointer by Western’s Ron Lee with six seconds left sealed the win for the Matadors.

“The defensive effort was really good,” Cochise head coach Jerry Carrillo told the Sierra Vista Herald. “The effort was sensational, but there’s no such thing as a moral victory.”

The loss drops Cochise to 11-14 overall and 6-11 in conference games this season.

Next, Cochise travels to Glendale Community College on Saturday and returns home to the Douglas Campus on Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. matchup against Central Arizona.

Admission is free to all regular-season home games.
