IMG_1870DOUGLAS — The Cochise College baseball team swept Arizona Western College on Tuesday, winning the first game 5-0 and the second 2-1.

Darick Hall pitched the complete-game shutout for Cochise in the early matchup, allowing just three hits and no walks while striking out three over seven innings. At the plate, Dan Hetzel was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Sean DeSoto was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Nate Stepna was 1 for 2 with two walks and two runs scored.

In game two, Arizona Western scored one in the fifth before Cochise got on the board on a solo home run by Charlie Ameer in the seventh. In the bottom of the eighth, Bryan Nunez reached on a walk, went to second on a passed ball, got to third on a single by Louis Boyd, and scored on another passed ball.

Nick Borowski started for Cochise and went seven solid innings, giving up an earned run on four hits and a walk while striking out two. Adam De La Cruz pitched the final two innings for the win.

Cochise is 39-11 overall this season and 24-6 in conference play with three doubleheaders remaining. The Apaches travel to Yavapai on Saturday and to South Mountain on Tuesday before returning home for the regular-season finale April 25 against Central Arizona.
