DOUGLAS — The Cochise College baseball team won three of four games during its season-opening series against New Mexico Military Institute last weekend.
On Saturday, the Apaches shut out the Broncos 8-0 in game one, then lost the late game 13-8.
In the early game, Steve Naemark pitched the complete game for the win, allowing two hits, no walks and striking out eight, while Francisco Silva and Jason Sanez had two RBIs apiece.
In the second game, NMMI put up 10 runs in the seventh inning on the way to the win. At the plate for Cochise, Jake Luna hit a three-run home run and James Stroud hit a solo home run.
On Sunday, Cochise bounced back to take both games, 7-2 and 12-2.
In game one, Darick Hall knocked in four runs, and Xavier Altamirano racked up six strikeouts while allowing one earned run on four hits and one walk over six innings.
The Apaches continued to pile up the runs in the late game, scoring five in the sixth and three in the seventh. Sean DeSoto had four RBIs on three hits and Hall earned the win on the mound, allowing two runs on two walks and eight hits while striking out three in six innings.
Next up for the Apaches is a three-game series against Western Nevada on Feb. 6-8 at the Douglas Campus. Games on Thursday and Friday start at 2 p.m. and Saturday’s game starts at noon.
