Douglas, AZ — Cochise men’s basketball was able to get back in the win column on Saturday night against Pima with an 87-69 win.
The Apaches were able to score the ball better and provide a pretty strong defense holding the Aztecs to 39% shooting for the night.
Leading the way was Arell Hennings scoring 19 points, shooting 50% from the field and dishing out 3 assists. Jawan Stepney and Emanual Shepherd added 12 points each.
The win was a great leap for Cochise as Arizona Western and Phoenix College both lost making the ACCAC a three-way tie at the top with all three teams having a
league record of 12-5.
“These next 5 games are big. We have to take one game at a time and really prepare to win with each practice we have during the week,” said Head Coach Jerry Carrillo after Saturday’s win.
The Apaches will travel to Scottsdale on Wednesday to play the hottest team in the league right now. Scottsdale has won five games in a row and is one game out of making the Division II playoffs for Region I.
“This is a big game for both teams. We are trying to win the ACCACC and hang a banner, and they are fighting for a playoff spot. This type of game will come down to who wants it more,” Coach Carrillo said.
The game will be streamed on Scottsdale’s athletic page tipping off at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday night.
