A new Cochise College-Arizona State University partnership program will help students make the most of the time they spend working toward a bachelor’s degree and protect participants from rising tuition costs.

The Point ASU program provides a seamless transfer process for students earning administration of justice, biology, elementary education, and psychology degrees at Cochise College. The Transfer Articulation Agreement (TAG) guarantees admission to the corresponding ASU colleges and outlines a prescribed sequence of Cochise College classes for students to take in preparation for their desired ASU degree.

“This program is a great way for Cochise College and ASU to help more students complete bachelor’s degrees,” said Dr. Verlyn Fick, vice president for instruction/provost at Cochise College.

The TAG specifies each class required for an ASU degree so students know which classes they can take at the community college. It gives participants access to advisors from both schools, who work together to point students toward the appropriate coursework.

Participants also save on tuition costs because they are eligible for the ASU Tuition Commitment Program, which limits the tuition increases that may occur during completion of a bachelor’s degree program. The rate participants pay is based on the semester they’re admitted into a TAG program and compliance with TAG requirements, such as completing their Cochise College coursework within three years and meeting GPA requirements. Students also can save by avoiding unnecessary classes.

As part of the program, ASU will accept approximately 60 Cochise College credits. In order to qualify for all of the Point ASU program benefits, participants must complete their Cochise College Arizona General Education Curriculum (AGEC) within three years of enrolling in the program.
