United States Holocaust Memorial Museum
Cochise College instructor, Stephanie Haas, recently attended an intensive training on the Holocaust at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C., with the intent to better educate Cochise College students.
Haas was only one of 183 teachers nationwide who was selected to attend. At the gathering, the participants teamed up with Museum educators and scholars in sharing rationales, strategies, and approaches for teaching about the Holocaust, Nazi propaganda and Anti-Semitism. Program participants also heard from Agi Geva and Henry Greenbaum, two Holocaust survivors who volunteer at the Museum.
Haas says besides lecturing on the subject, she also wants to reestablish the Wish Club, which is a Cochise College club that promotes awareness and action regarding manifestations of prejudice, discrimination and bullying in societies around the world. The special intention is to inform about the causes and consequences of the Holocaust and on the potential for future genocides.
