LAS CRUCES, N.M. — The Cochise College rodeo team closed its season last weekend at New Mexico State University and next heads to the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo.
The Cochise women’s rodeo team finished the season in fourth place in the Grand Canyon Region standings. The Cochise men finished sixth.
Two Apaches’ individual region finishes qualified them for national competition. Georgia Diez took second in the region in the women’s all-around standings, first in barrel racing and 10th in goat tying. Diez was also honored with Rookie Cowgirl and Horse of the Year. Charlie Kogianes finished third in saddle bronc riding.
Diez and Kogianes will join hundreds of cowboys and cowgirls from more than 100 universities and colleges at the annual College National Finals Rodeo on June 9 at the Casper Events Center, where the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association crowns individual event champions each year.
