FORT HUACHUCA — The Cochise College women’s rodeo team took first place and the men finished fourth at the Apaches’ annual spring rodeo at Wren Arena on Fort Huachuca, held March 7-8.
The women finished with 480 points, well in front of second-place Central Arizona College with 337.5 points. Cochise’s Arianna Assini finished first in the women’s all-around, tying for third in team roping and taking third in goat tying. Makayla Boots finished fifth in the all-around, finishing seventh in team roping and sixth in breakaway roping.
Georgia Diez placed first in barrel racing, and other top finishers in goat tying included Bandee Tubbs in second, Janey Reeves in fifth and Shyanne Summerfield in a tie for sixth.
For the Cochise men, Wade Kane finished third in saddle bronc riding, JD Aquilina took fourth in bareback riding, and Justin Stegall tied for third and Bobby Flores finished eighth in team roping.
The Cochise women are at the top of the Grand Canyon Region standings, followed by Central Arizona in second and New Mexico State University in third. The Cochise men are fifth in the region, just behind Dine College in fourth.
Next, the Apaches compete in Central Arizona’s rodeo, held in Florence on March 14-15.
