The women’s basketball team is back on campus for the fall semester, and the Apaches are already hard at work in the weight room and conditioning in preparation for the 2014-15 season.
Official practice for the team begins Oct. 1. The Apaches return five players from last season’s squad, including Destiny Amezquita, who broke the school record for most 3-point field goals in a season, led the Apaches in scoring and was named Freshman of the Year by the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference, as well as First Team All-Conference and All-Region Division I.
“The girls have been working really hard,” head coach Laura Hughes said. “We have already seen improvement in one sort week. I love their intensity and positive attitude.”
Cochise has scrimmages scheduled throughout October and opens the season with non-conference games in early November. Conference play opens Nov. 11 at Arizona Western College.
