1016 rodeo mesalandsTUCUMCARI, N.M. — The Cochise women’s rodeo team took home first place at the Mesalands Rodeo last weekend, the final rodeo of the fall season. The Cochise men took fifth.

The women had 450 points, followed by Central Arizona with 425 and New Mexico State University with 215. Cochise was led by Makayla Boots with a first-place finish in goat tying. Georgia Diez took second in the women’s all around with 195 points, including a second-place finish in barrel racing and fifth in goat tying. Shyanne Summerfield was fifth in barrel racing and Arianna Assini took fourth in goat tying.

For the men, two Apaches placed in saddle bronc riding: Josh Winans in fourth and Wade Kane in fifth.

The Apaches are back in action this spring, including the annual home rodeo on Fort Huachuca.
