SIERRA VISTA — Business planning is important for farmers market vendors of all shapes and sizes, from the small-scale backyard growers to established farmers and ranchers.

The Cochise College Small Business Development Center will host a free seminar, Business Planning for Cochise County Food Producers, sponsored by Baja Arizona Sustainable Agriculture, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Feb. 4 in room 900 on the Sierra Vista Campus. The event is free and open to food producers and anyone else interested in business planning.

The workshop will teach attendees how to develop business goals and objectives; define an audience and customers; determine marketing and sales strategies; explain how products are unique; and implement a financial management system. Business planning workbooks will be provided to all participants.

“A well-written and thoughtful business plan can help you understand your current productivity, or help you expand your operation, including successfully applying for loans,” said Mark Schmitt, Director of the Cochise College SBDC.

Seating is limited and registration is required by Jan. 31. To register, contact Rachel Norton at the SBDC at (520) 515-5478 or nortonr@cochise.edu.
