IMG_0370Cochise College sophomore Jordan Martin was named an honorable mention NJCAA Division I All-American on Tuesday for his outstanding contributions to the men’s basketball team this season.

Martin was one of just two sophomores on the Apaches’ squad that helped lead Cochise to a region championship, a near victory over powerhouse College of Southern Idaho in the district matchup, and a spot in the national tournament in Hutchinson, Kan., for the first time since 2001.

“Jordan had a great year for us and a great two-year career here at Cochise,” said head coach Jerry Carrillo. “Jordan really set the tone for us this year with is ability to compete at such a high intensity level every game.”

The 5-11 guard started all but two games this year and led the team in points per game, averaging 17.7, while contributing 6.3 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. His efforts helped spur the team’s 10-game winning streak to open the season.

Martin was named to the First Team All-Arizona Community College Athletic Conference and First Team NJCAA Region I Division I. He has signed with Hawaii Pacific University in Honolulu, an NCAA Division II institution that competes in the Pacific West Conference.

“He led well by example and we are very proud of his accolades,” Carrillo said. “We wish him the very best as he moves on to the Hawaii Pacific Sharks.”
