SCOTTSDALE — The Cochise College baseball team, ranked 14th nationally in the latest NJCAA Division I poll, swept Scottsdale Community College on Tuesday, winning 8-5 and 11-8.
In game one, Scottsdale jumped on top 4-1 in the first inning, but Cochise answered with five runs on two outs in the top of the second. The Apaches scored on a passed ball, a bases-loaded walk, and a bases-clearing double to left that scored Adam De La Cruz, Bryan Nunez and Jackson Overlund. Cochise tacked on two more runs in the fifth on an RBI single to left by Sean DeSoto and a balk that brought home Jorge Duarte.
Darick Hall got the win for Cochise, giving up five runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out seven in the complete seven innings.
Game two saw the teams combine for 28 hits. Charlie Ameer hit three doubles and drove in a run, and Hall was 3 for 5 with three RBIs.
Cochise is 33-9 overall and 18-4 in conference play heading into Saturday’s noon doubleheader against Chandler-Gilbert on the Douglas Campus. Admission is free to all regular-season home games.
