The Cochise College music department will present free spring concerts in the coming weeks.

The college’s Jazz Band will perform at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 28 at the Centennial Pavilion located at Veterans’ Memorial Park in Sierra Vista. The concert will feature favorite jazz standards from all jazz eras and styles, and each musician in the band will perform in solo improvisational roles. The Jazz Band is directed by Mike Kuhn, and admission is free.

College ensembles based at the Douglas Campus will present Springsong: Of Sun and Shadow early in May. The two free concerts are set for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 2 at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Parish Hall in Douglas and 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 4 at St. John’s Episcopal Parish Hall in Old Bisbee.

Both Springsong shows will feature the college’s Bi-national Chorus and Instrumental Ensemble, and the Douglas High School Chorus will join in for the May 2 concert. Listeners will hear a mix of musical genres intended to display the light and deep intricacies of this rejuvenating season, including spiritual, popular, classical, folk and choral arrangements, composed by Juan de Araujo, Eric Whitacre, Mozart and more.

The Bi-national Chorus is conducted by Lori Keyne, while the Instrumental Ensemble is led by Francisco Barrios. Michael Goodwin directs the Douglas High School Chorus.
