DOUGLAS — Hours of workouts and drills are essential to preseason training, but the Cochise College women’s soccer team also emphasizes the importance of team bonding during the weeks leading up to the start of the season.

Apache soccer players work on their zumba skills during preseason training.
Third-year Apache head coach Andrea Daniels believes that building chemistry between teammates off the field is a key component of strengthening the team on the field.
“We get two weeks to meet each other, learn our system of play, understand each other’s strengths and weaknesses, and gel together,” she said. “So, we value team bonding and understand the power it brings on the field.”

The soccer squad enjoys a movie together.
Members of the Apache soccer team have recently been spotted running through the hills of nearby Bisbee, with a pit stop for a morning meal together at the Bisbee Breakfast Club, as well as working on their zumba skills and taking in a movie in Douglas.
Cochise opens the season, as well as conference play, Thursday, Aug. 23, with a game at Chandler-Gilbert. The Apaches play their home opener at 3 p.m. Aug. 28 against Pima Community College.
Admission is free to all Cochise College home games, held on the soccer field at the Douglas Campus.
