Cochise College Willcox Center ITV Classroom

Cochise College Willcox Center has reimagined how its programs can support the residents of Northeastern Cochise County.

The Willcox Center has expanded its Interactive Television (ITV) network. ITV also called Cochise Connect classes are taught at more than one location using ITV as the primary delivery mechanism and online resources for transmitting documents and exams. This technology allows the Willcox Center to access lectures from Sierra Vista, Douglas, and Benson, providing district-wide lectures in a traditional classroom atmosphere.Students from Sierra Vista, Douglas and Willcox can talk and see each other every day with Cochise Connect Technology.

Local student Deianira Morris or “Fidge” as people call her, intends to become an archeologist. The commute from Willcox to Sierra Vista would have meant hours of her time sapped dry. Instead, she’s attended archeology classes, anthropology classes, English, and several other classes, in Willcox via Cochise Connect.

“I’ve only met one of my teachers in person,” Fidge explained. “We kind of meet people from the other campuses. We communicate in class from the TV. We don’t really ever see the students in person, but you know them and kind of become friends with them.”

In addition to its ITV efforts, the Willcox Center values  their partnership with the Joint Technology Education District (JTED) to provide programs for high school students. The students are exposed to classes focusing on Law Enforcement, Certified Nursing Assistant, and Network Technologies.

The Center for Lifelong Learning (CLL) also offers classes at the Willcox Center for those individuals interested in non-traditional courses. Additionally, the center provides  facility rentals for organizations in the community needing a venue for various events.
