0930 soccer glendaleGLENDALE — The Cochise College soccer team routed Glendale on Saturday 6-1 with five goals scored in the first half.

Ivonne Cisneros punched the ball into the corner of the net off a pass from Talya De Leon in the third minute to start the scoring spree. De Leon headed in a goal off a corner kick by Cisneros in the 16th minute, and De Leon scored again in the 22nd minute with an assist by Naiara Sanchez.

Cisneros scored in the 37th minute with assists from Kim Cormier and Jennifer Calanche, and Arianna Paez put in the Apaches’ fifth goal just seconds before halftime off a De Leon pass.

“I was really happy with the first half of play,” said Cochise head coach Andrea Daniels. “The girls really worked for each other, moved well off the ball and pressured great as a team.”

In the second half, Cisneros added a goal for Cochise in the 52nd minute off a cross from Calanche. Glendale scored in the 67th minute. Cochise totaled 13 shots and goalie Danielle Dunn made two saves for the Apaches, who improved to 8-4 and sit fourth in the ACCAC standings.

“We are looking forward to completing the rest of conference play strong,” Daniels said.

Up next for Cochise is a home game against Pima Community College at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bujalski Track and Field Complex, next to Barnes Field House, on Fort Huachuca.

Admission is free to all regular-season home games.
